Shane Young, Director for Killary Adventure Company speaking at Careers In The Outdoors 2011

Find out more about working in New Zealand, Argentina & ireland with Shane Young from Killary Adventure Co. Shane was born and bought up on the Atlantic coast of Ireland. Whilst Adventure sports are a comparatively new concept in Ireland, Killary celebrates 30 years in '11 and this family business is being passed onto the next generation with an appreciation of the concept of Killary - its environment - excitement - innovation - fit for life - challenge - etc.

Shane was Instructing from an early age, driving power boats, water skiing, high ropes courses, sailing etc - immersed in the adventurous environment. He has a keen interest in adventure racing, taking part in the longer endurance races including the 3 Peaks sailing/mountain running race.

As Killary further develops its 'Instructor Training Course', the Adventure Racing Events and other areas, he is expanding both his own skills and encouraging others to look at adventure sports as a practical rural career. All the family travel and Killary is involved in setting up a number of contacts with similar international operations to encourage practical work opportunities for our potential instructors.. Shane will describe some of this background and how Killary has kept evolving since its inception to now employ over 50 people, encouraging discussion with the audience on why he sees this as a very viable, hands on job and what the future may hold in a life 'using the Outdoors'!

This presentation was filmed by OutdoorStaff.TV at The Outdoors Show on Saturday 15th Jan 2011.
